One of the world’s richest men, Sergey Brin, has split from his wife 23andMe co-founder Anne Wojcicki, and could be heading for divorce according the Huffington Post.
Brin is the co-founder of the popular search engine, Google, and is currently worth $22.8 billion. According to Forbes, Brin ranks as the 14th richest person in the U.S. He reportedly is dating another Google executive, one who previously was romantically linked to another male executive there and is 14 years his junior.
Brin has not commented on whether they are dating or not. Anytime word leaks out about a boss being involved with a subordinate, the potential for embarrassment exists. Google’s own guidelines for proper behavior address that possibility. They recommend: “When faced with a potential conflict of interest, ask: Would this activity embarrass Google or me if it showed up on the front page of a newspaper or blog?”
Brin and Wojcicki, both 40, have been married for six years and have two children. They have an abundance of joint business ventures based in Silicon Valley, including Wojcicki’s startup 23andMe, which sells DNA test kits and assists users in identifying health risks.
Google ties run deep in the Brin family. Brin’s sister-in-law Susan Wojcicki is one of Google’s highest-ranking executives. She was the one who actually rented her garage to Brin and co-founder Larry Page where they created the famous Mountain View, California company.
They have also given millions of dollars to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Brin’s mother suffers from Parkinson’s and Brin himself carries a gene that puts him at risk for developing the disease.
Despite the Brin and Wojcicki split, Google will likely survive. The couple reportedly have a prenuptial agreement.
