South Floridian Woman Indicted by Grand Jury in FSU Professor’s Murder

Katherine Magbanua, a South Florida woman, has been indicted by a grand jury for the murder of Florida State University professor Daniel Markel in 2014. She has been charged with first-degree murder for her role in the shooting, as reported by local10.com.

The professor was shot at midday in the garage of his Tallahassee home. As explained by Florida divorce attorneys, the Tallahassee Police Department in an affidavit claimed there was a direct connection between Markel’s death and his bitter and contentious 2013 divorce battle with lawyer Wendi Adelson, who incidentally is a federal judge and resides in Miami Beach.

The police alleged it to be a murder-for-hire plot in which Luis Rivera is said to have pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for his role in the shooting. He was sentenced to seven years and escaped a potential death sentence following the plea deal. He is already serving a 12 year jail term for a charge not related to the current case.

Meanwhile, Wendi Adelson and her family continue to deny their involvement in Markel’s death. She has not been charged while her brother who is under the police scanner currently does not face any charge. Magbanua is the only link the police have found between Markel’s ex-wife’s family and the two men arrested for the professor’s death since she was in a relationship with Adelson’s brother.
