Tampa, FL- Actress and former TV host, Rikki Lake filed for divorce from her husband of three years. Meanwhile, “Glee” star Jane Lynch finalizes divorce her divorce from her partner for what she described as a “fortune.”
Lake’s divorce filing didn’t really come as a surprise, since just last week she announced her split from her jewelry designer husband Christian Evans. When news of Lake’s split with Evans surfaced, an insider told TMZ Lake was upset at her husband because he took a solo trip to Ibiza on her birthday, and didn’t even call her! But we all know there has to be more to it than that.
Lake and Evans got hitched in April of 2012 in a small intimate ceremony on a California beach. After marrying Evans, Lake said he was her soul mate, but as we all know love doesn’t always last.
In the divorce documents, which TMZ obtained, Lake agreed to pay Evans spousal support for two years, indicating she is the primary breadwinner. The docs also allude to a prenuptial agreement the couple signed before they married which will determine how their property is divided.
This will be the second divorce for Lake; she was married to artist Rob Sussman from 1993 to 2003 and the couple had two sons aged 10 and 14.
While Lake is just beginning the divorce process, actress Jane Lynch finalized her divorce from her partner Dr. Laura Embry, a clinincal psychologist. And a TMZ pointed out, gay divorce is just as expensive as a straight divorce and the breadwinner has to pay half.
The two time Emmy- award winner will pay her ex a lump sum of $1.2 million, and that’s just the cash settlement. On top of the cash, Embry was awarded half of Lynch’s bank a trust accounts, half of the royalties from her television appearances, including “Glee,” and half of their tax refund, to name a few.
Embry also gets custody of the couple’s dog Francis.
The couple married in 2010 in Massachusetts, but their relationship began to fall apart in 2013, and Lynch filed for separation citing “irreconcilable differences.”
As an interesting side note; did you know Lynch and Embry were in the middle of renovating their California home when they split? It’s interesting because divorce attorneys and psychologists agree that the stress associated with a major home renovation drives a lot of couples to divorce. The biggest strain comes from the costs associated with renovation, but the design and decision making process also brings out the worst in a couple.
Unlike LGBT couples in other states, Lynch was able to settle her divorce quickly and easily. LGBT married couples and their divorce attorneys face numerous challenges when they file for divorce in states where gay marriage is banned. Lynch’s divorce didn’t exactly go smoothly, but she didn’t face the troubles many LGBT couples encounter.
Shortly after she separated from Embry, TMZ asked Lynch if LGBT couples were rushing into gay marriage in light of her acrimonious divorce. But Lynch scoffed at that notion, replying “Are you kidding me?”
