Kody Brown marries his fourth spiritual wife
Sister Wives star Kody Brown married his fourth spiritual wife, Robyn, after divorcing his only legally wedded wife, Meri. The Brown family includes the advertising salesman Kody, and his four wives, Meri Barber (42), Janelle (44), Christine (41), and Robyn Sullivan (34) and seventeen children in total.
The reality show aired on TLC, began in 2010, and showcases the lives of the polygamist family. Of all the wives, Meri was the only one who Kody was legally married to, while the other three were spiritual unions. Divorce attorneys said that Kody divorced his wife Meri, last September, but she continues to stay with Kody as a spiritual wife.
A case of yours, mine, and ours
Robyn has three children from her previous marriage and had financial difficulties after she divorced her previous husband. Kody allegedly married Robyn to provide more security to Robyn’s three kids. Kody and Robyn have one biological son together, Solomon.
Robyn was spiritually united with Kody in 2011 in Utah and gave birth to Solomon a year later in Kody’s Las Vegas bedroom. Her first child, Dayton, who is a 15 year old, was born out of wedlock but she married the father later and had two more children before she divorced him.
Robyn has changed her name to Robyn Brown from Robyn Sullivan, and the polygamist family now lives in four custom built neighboring homes in Las Vegas. Kody has been married to Meri for 20 years, Janelle for 17 years, and Christine, who is a homemaker, for 16 years. Kody and Meri have an 18-year-old daughter called Mariah. Meri, Robyn, and Christine were all raised in polygamist families, but not Janelle.
Meri wanted more children in the family since she herself had only one child and had issues with fertility. She apparently encouraged Kody to court Robyn.
The Brown family has said that they participated in the show to make the public more aware of polygamist families and to combat societal prejudices. Divorce attorneys said that the show led to investigations for possible prosecution, but Brown believes the polygamist arrangement is legal.
The family also sells jewelry and knickknacks through their online business, My Sister Wives Closet.
