While Oprah Winfrey may not be evicting her stepsister from a Nashville home the popular star owns, her stepmom may not be so lucky. In the latest twist of Oprah’s father’s divorce, it seems as though deputies will not carry out an eviction order against Ashley Williams.
Ashley is the daughter of Barbara Winfrey, ex-wife of Winfrey’s father, Vernon Winfrey. An attorney for the trust that owns the property rescinded the order to have Williams evicted.
Vernon Winfrey, former Nashville-area councilman and barber, filed for divorce from Barbara this summer, claiming she is “guilty of inappropriate marital conduct” and citing irreconcilable differences. However, Barbara denies the claims and alleges Vernon Winfrey, 79, tried to kill her, in addition to having cheated on her and conspiring with Oprah to have her thrown out of the home – all accusations which Vernon denies.
The couple, who wed in 2000, was living in a $1.4 million home and now the property is being sold after the divorce, but Barbara Winfrey is still living there and claims Oprah is trying to intimidate her.
According to Oprah’s spokeswoman, Winfrey sought to give her stepmother an alternative place to live, but Barbara didn’t accept.
