It seems as though Florida schools can’t seem to stay out of news headlines. Just a few days back, we learned that a married 26-year-old middle school teacher was arrested and charged with lewd or lascivious battery and transmitting harmful materials to a child. She allegedly had sex with this 14-year-old student among other things. According to Daily Mail, the boy confided in his parents and told them about this “relationship” he had with the New Smyrna Beach Middle School science teacher” after his grades began to suffer. He admitted that Stephanie Peterson Ferri would pick him up at his home around 11:00 p.m. when her husband was at work and take him back to her home.

Aside from that, the teacher was accused of sending the teen nude photos and purchasing marijuana for him along with a” bowl to smoke it in.” She allegedly told him to never speak about their relationship to anyone. After being arrested, Peterson was taken to a FL jail and held on $25,000 bond. The judge has since reduced her bond to $12,500 and Peterson is currently out of police custody.

What we are now learning is that Peterson had filed for divorce just two weeks before she was arrested from her husband who is a firefighter in DeLand. Court documents highlight that the request for the divorce was filed on February 12th which means they had only been married for two years seeing that they wed back in 2015. Many news outlets have posted photos of the young teacher and her husband, and while they appeared to be happy, we all know that things aren’t always as they seem.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported that Peterson’s father, who is a divorce attorney, is representing his daughter in her ongoing divorce case. He declined to discuss the matter when contacted by news sources and Peterson’s husband also did not respond when a request for comment was sent by a city spokeswoman.

Both Stephanie and Brandon Ferri deleted their Facebook accounts as well after the arrest went public.
