The man known for losing weight on the Subway diet is now losing his wife. Multiple news outlets report that Katie Fogle filed for divorce, on the same day the disgraced former Subway spokesman pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography and having sex with underage girls. Some believe this indicates that she had no idea about the nefarious activities her husband has been engaging in for years.
According the Daily Mail, Katie Fogle listed her separation date as August 19th, the same day her husband appeared in court to plead guilty to numerous federal counts.
Jared and Katie Fogle married in 2010 and have two children together.
In a statement, Katie Fogle said, “Obviously, I am extremely shocked and disappointed by the recent development involving Jared. I am in the process of seeking a dissolution of the marriage. My focus is exclusively on the well-being of my children.”
US Weekly reports that Katie Fogle has asked the court to determine child custody. Obviously while her husband serves his prison term, Katie Fogle will have custody the couple’s two children, but she would like the court to “determine all child related issues, including custody, parenting time, child support, and education expenses as part of the final order,” according to US Weekly.
In her divorce petition, Katie Fogle also asked the court to divide their joint assets, which would give Jared’s wife 7 million – Jared Fogle net worth is 15 million.
Allegations against Jared Fogle first surfaced last month when the FBI raided his posh home, searching for child pornography. He was soon fired as Subway’s spokesman and is now facing federal charges.
Federal prosecutors allege that Fogle traveled from his home in Indiana to New York City to have sexual encounters with underage girls between 2010 and 2013. In one text the spokesman said, “the younger the girl the better,” according to the Daily Mail.
Yesterday, Fogle pleaded guilty to one count of having sex with a minor and one count of possession of child pornography. He has agreed to pay several victims $100,000 each and will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. He hasn’t been sentenced yet, but he faces up to 12 years in jail.
Update: Jared Fogle was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison.
When it comes to child custody, it is unusual for a spouse to leave custody arrangements solely up to a judge’s discretion. Generally, spouses know exactly and enlist a child custody attorney in Iowa to ensure they get the custody arrangement they want. But in Katie Fogle’s case she wants the court to help her determine what is in the best interests of her children and that is probably wise considering the shocking crimes her husband is accused of committing.
