Carter filed the papers in a Los Angles court earlier this week citing irreconcilable differences between her a Brandon Malone. The filing states that two have been separated since August of 2011, just two years after they tied the knot.
The couple doesn’t have any children together so this won’t be an issue. Carter and Malone did not have an agreement on how to divide their assets.
According to TMZ, Deana is asking for spousal support and wants Malone to pay for the legal fees.
Carter has been recording for years and recently had a great deal of success with her song “Strawberry Wine.” She also co-wrote the song “You and Tequila” with Kenny Chesney and appeared on his latest album “Hemmingway’s Whiskey.”
Filing for legal separation is the first step in the divorce process. California, like many states, requires couples to file for separation at least six months before they can file for divorce. This gives the couple a chance to try for reconciliation.
But if reconciliation is impossible the couple must dissolve their marriage. When this is inevitable, it is in the best interest of both parties to have a thorough and knowledgeable divorce attorney in their corner. Backed up by an experienced attorney, a couple can reach settle their disagreements over asset division and spousal support.
