Houston, TX- For actress Lisa Welchel, starring on “Survivor” was her way of dealing with a painful divorce from her husband of 24 years.
Welchel, who is most known for her role in the 80s sitcom, “The Facts of Life,” began filming the new season of “Survivor” on March 10th, just days after her divorce from Pastor Steve Cauble.
“The divorce was final on March 1st, and [I] went out to be on Survivor on March 10,” Welchel told People magazine, “Going out to Survivor was helpful for me, to divert may attention and not just dwell on the loss.”
Welchel, 49, met Cauble, 61, when “Facts of Life” stopped filming in a prayer group. Both devout Christians, the couple spent much of their life together working in ministry and the divorce threw her for a loop.
“I just never thought it would happen to me,” Welchel said, “It was painful to realize it wasn’t going to work out.”
The couple has three grown children so their divorce didn’t entail a custody battle.
She gathered with her ex-husband and children to watch the season premier Wednesday night.
