Davie, FL- VH-1 reality star Evelyn Lozada filed for divorce from her husband of 41 Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson after he allegedly butted her in the head outside their Florida home.
A representative for Lozada confirmed reports saying, “Given the recent events that have taken place, Evelyn has decided to file for divorce and move on with her life.”
Davie Police said that an argument over a receipt for condoms escalated to an alleged assault. Lozada confronted Johnson about the receipt while they were having dinner, the fight continued on their drive home. After the couple arrived in their driveway, Johnson allegedly head-butted Lozada.
In a 911 call, one of Lozada’s neighbors told the dispatcher there was an incident involving a “high-profile person” and can be heard telling Lozada to wipe the blood off of her face. The caller also said that Lozada probably needed stitches.
Lozada went to the hospital for multiple lacerations to her forehead.
Johnson was placed under arrest for domestic battery and spent the night in a Florida jail. He denies the allegations and told police Lozada head-butted him.
Just 24 hours after his arrest the Miami Dolphins fired Johnson. A reality show for VH-1 starring Johnson and Lozada was also shelved following the weekend events.
In the court documents, Lozada stated the couple had a prenuptial agreement, but is asking Johnson to pay her lawyer fees.
It is wise for high-profile or wealthy couples to take steps to protect themselves from an ugly divorce. Prior to tying the knot, these couples often seek the counsel of a divorce attorney and allow them to draft up a prenuptial agreement which allows them to dictate what assets will be divided and the amount of support each party will be entitled to.
