“The Dog Whisperer,” Cesar Millan, recently admitted that he has been working on his own life after a suicide attempt in 2010. That year, he lost his top dog, Daddy, to cancer after being with him for 16 years. Just one month later, Millan’s wife told him she wanted a divorce after 16 years of marriage. The combination of the two tragic events led Millan down a downward spiral.
In May 2010, he attempted suicide with a drug overdose, and ended up unconscious and hospitalized. A month later, news of his divorce went public. That summer, according to Millan, was “the lowest level I had ever been emotionally and psychologically.”
As part of his recuperation, Millan told the Associated Press that he was trying to heal himself emotionally through exercise and self-wisdom. Immersing himself in work has also helped him. Two years later, a healthier Millan said he is moving on with his life, but perhaps even worse than the pain over the divorce was the loss of Daddy, which Millan says he can never replace.
Millan is now dating and has a girlfriend named Jahira Dar, who lives with him and the younger of his two sons.
