COTTAGE GROVE, Minn. — According to police, a woman who was shot and killed by her husband in the parking lot of a Cottage Grove strip mall had expressed fear that he would do something to hurt her after filing for divorce.
Tensia Richard had feared that there might be a “snapping point” for her estranged husband. Having two sons, ages 3 and 5 months, Richard was afraid for the safety of her children and family and filed for divorce. She was living with her kids at her parents’ house in Cottage Grove after she left her husband.
However, Richard’s husband, Chevel Richard, chased her into a Jimmy John’s sandwich shop Thursday afternoon and shot her to death, then he shot himself in the head. He later died at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. shot her, then shot himself in the head. He died at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
Tensia Richard had filed for a restraining order in June 2011, but it was dismissed in August.
