Los Angeles, CA- When it comes to celebrities most hope their marriages will last for decades;  that rarely happens unless you are Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman; likely one of Hollywood’s longest lasting marriages. But after 30 years of marriage, Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman have announced they are separating and plan to file for divorce, leaving many to wonder, why?

Pearlman, 64, and DeVito, 67, met in 1970 when he was performing in a Broadway play. Pearlman fell for DeVito instantly and after living together for over 11 years decided to tie the knot in December of 1982. They have three children together.

The couple gave no real reason for their separation and hasn’t yet stated they are divorcing. Legal separation however is the first step a couple must take if they plan to pursue dissolution.

One would assume that after thirty years DeVito and Pearlman would have cleared all the hurdles that lead to divorce. But sometimes, even after many years a couple is no longer compatible. Over the past couple of years there has been a rise in the number of seniors filing for divorce, often called grey divorce.

Older people who are driven to a divorce attorney often find themselves suffering from empty nest syndrome, their children are grown and they no longer have the same interests.

Also, women are enjoying more economic independence and no longer rely on their spouses for financial support, unlike previous decades when women did not have their own careers and income.
