Miami, FL- Just two days after Chad Johnson refused to sign the divorce papers filed by his estranged wife Evelyn Lozada; a Florida judge finalized their divorce ending their very short two month marriage.
Johnson a six-time Pro-Bowl winner was initially in denial that his marriage was over, even though Lozada was firm that they were over. He got a tattoo of Evelyn over Labor Day weekend, after he was arrested for head-butting her outside their Florida home, an incident that cost him his job with the Miami Dolphins.
“Evelyn and Mr. Johnson were divorced this morning in an uncontested final hearing,” Lozada’s divorce lawyer Michael Gilden told People, “My client is a single woman and looks forward to her future.”
The couple had a pre-nuptial and no children so they were able to settle things quickly, but Johnson faes other legal troubles.
He hasn’t appeared in court for the domestic battery charge he received in August. Johnson allegedly butted Lozada in the head in front of their home following a verbal argument. Lozada was injured and required stitches on her forehead. Though this was the impetus for her divorce, Lozada has encouraged Johnson to get help.
“It is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will encourage other women to break their silence as well.’
Domestic violence is a serious issue and the cause of many divorces; neither party can get the help they need until someone speaks out.
