‘1000-Lb. Sisters’ Star Amy Slaton and Husband Michael Headed for Divorce
Just as things were beginning to look up for 1000-Lb. Sisters star Amy Slaton, it was announced that she and her husband, Michael Halterman, are getting divorced. People says the couple eloped back in 2017 and two years later, celebrated a wedding, which was captured on the TLC show (1).
The source notes that it was Halterman who filed the divorce paperwork in a Kentucky court on March 13, 2023.
Amy Slaton and Michael Halterman share two kids.
Slaton and Halterman are the parents of two kids. The coupled recently welcomed their second child, Glenn Allen Halterman, back in July 2022. Glenn was born via c-section and weighed 5 lbs., 11 oz. at birth. The couple also share Gage Deon Halterman, who was born in November 2020.
Following the birth of Glenn, the mom of two told People, “The delivery was a huge success and now I have both of my miracle boys; our family is complete!” She later shared, “My heart is full. Being a mom is what I’ve wanted to do since I was 5 years old, and I’ve always wanted two kids. Our family is finally complete. We can put us in a frame and hang us on the wall now.”
It isn’t yet clear how the couple intends on dividing their time with their two kids or if they have hired divorce lawyers.
How do you divide time with kids after divorce?
Contrary to popular belief, divorcing parents do have a say in how they want to split their time with their kids. The key to being heard is having a skilled Alabama divorce attorney representing you and a thought-out parenting plan. Courts will generally honor the terms of your parenting plan so as long as your child’s other parent is in agreement with them, and they are in the best interest of the child.
A parenting plan outlines the custody agreement you and your child’s other parent have agreed on, whether it be joint custody or physical custody, and addresses common issues. For instance, which parent will make legal decisions for your child (or will it be both) and how will exchanges work? The more issues addressed, the less room there is for conflicts to arise.
A skilled Alabama divorce lawyer can help you create a solid parenting plan.
Without a parenting plan, the courts are forced to intervene and make decisions regarding your child. If you’d prefer to make these decisions on your own, contact Hill, Gossett, Kemp & Hufford, P.C. to speak with a divorce lawyer in Moody, AL. An attorney can help you understand your rights as a parent and how they can best be exercised through the divorce proceedings.
