02 23 12 Divorce Family Law News Blog Divorce Dispute Ends in Murder SuicideUTAH/CALIFORNIA – A bitter divorce has left two children orphaned.

According to police, the body of 45-year-old Margaret Ann Goldberg was found in a Redondo Beach, CA apartment in the 1200 block of Agate Street on Wednesday. Authorities had responded to the unit after someone had called to have them check on her welfare from New York.

The victim had been shot to death and police went in search of her ex-husband, 49-year-old Russell Scott Goldberg. Goldberg’s 2007 Saturn Vue SUV on Interstate 15 in Beaver County, Utah.

When he noticed the police, Goldberg fled from officers and was finally cornered around 5:45pm Wednesday. Three hours later, Goldberg shot himself in the head and ended his own life.

The victims are survived by two children, a 13-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy.

Authorities explained that the victims were in the midst of a bitter divorce and custody battle. A judge had even ordered them to stay away from each other.

Patrick DeCarolis, Jr., Margaret’s divorce attorney, told Daily Breeze that Russell was upset that his ex-wife withheld spousal support during a custody hearing the previous Friday. Margaret allegedly withheld payment because Russell did not pay for the children’s health insurance.
