It seems as though Brown was so broke after their divorce that he was living out of his car for some time.
“Although I was having severe financial problems, I did all I could to see my daughter,” said brown. “I came to California to be near Bobbi Kris. I also paid approximately $10,000 for Whitney and Bobbi Kris to live in a nice hotel while Whitney was going through rehab. At the same time, I basically lived out of my car.”
However, Houston was convinced her ex could have easily found means for income.
“Bobby is fully capable of working and earning substantial sums of money if he would control his personal behavior,” she wrote in divorce documents. “It is his personal conduct that keeps him from earning very substantial sums of money.”
Houston, who died last month in a hotel in California, said she left Brown for her own well-being.
“Frankly I needed to be divorced from him so that I could get my life back on track,” she wrote.
However, Brown had a very different argument. He claimed he was a good father to the then 14-year-old Bobbi Kris and accused Houston of trying to come between them.
